Dod data destruction standards10/31/2023 ![]() It is not only the Department of Defense’s data destruction guidelines that continue to change and evolve but technology itself. ![]() This is the only way that we feel comfortable in guaranteeing that our on-site data wiping and off-site data wiping can be considered DOD certified wiping. We pride ourselves on our regular and ongoing internal audits and reviews, wherein our data wiping equipment and procedures are deconstructed and analyzed. How do we ensure that our methods are DOD compliant? By following the guidelines to the letter, and by guaranteeing that we never perform any data wiping or data destruction services that dip below what could be considered DOD certified wiping. More recently, this standard was superseded by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST)’s 800-88 guidelines, prompting us to perform an internal overhaul of our security measures and data wiping processes to once again ensure that we met or exceeded the new guidelines 100 percent of the time. So when the DOD released their 5220.22-M standard on data destruction, we ensured that our DOD certified wiping met or exceeded this standard at all times. That’s why, when the Department of Defense releases guidelines and standards relating to data destruction, we pay attention. This information is accessed only by those with top-level security clearances and is disposed of with the greatest of care. The Department of Defense is entrusted with information of the highest possible security classification. ![]() If It’s Good Enough for the Department of Defense… We take pride in ensuring that our equipment and processes strictly conform to or exceed the recently-enacted NIST 800-88 guidelines, which supersede the better-known DOD 5220-22-M requirements. ![]() When you choose DOD wiping, you’re choosing to make use of the same data wiping solutions that are used by the United States military and the federal government. ![]()
